I don’t usually do Christmas Posts… But it’s a Nancy post. I recently discovered Nancy and I think she is my twin soul. LOVE her!

I moved from Blogger a few months ago. I’m sharing the books I’ve read this year. At the beginning of 2012 I made a promise that I would read one book a month. In February I read 2 books (I’ll accept my Noddy Badge later). This is what I wrote (pulled directly from my old blog)
I mentioned that February would be Zakes Mda month. I started off with Memoirs of an Outsider and then finished off Cion.
I REALLY enjoyed Ways of Dying about Toloki the professional mourner. In Cion the professional mourner is now in the US and learns about the ancestors of the people with whom he is staying. It took a while to get into the book. But I trust the author so I kept going on. When I got to the end of the book I wanted to know more about what happens to all the characters. I must add that I felt like the characters were a little thin. They were a little hard to bring to ‘life’ but I enjoyed the book none the less.
It would be unfair to compare this book to ‘Ways of Dying’ (which is one of my favourite books). I don’t think you necessarily have to have read Ways of Dying to enjoy Cion. This book reminded me a little of Toni Morrison’s works, which is great because I am a HUGE Toni Morrison fan. Her book A Mercy was the January book.
I like this song. A LOT! He had me with ‘Get Lifted’. John can do no wrong in my eyes/ears. Enjoy the Saturday Jam.
I know this is weird, but I can’t help thinking how trusting he must be to let the woman in the video touch his face (and lips). Yeah, its weird. But I have a thing about people touching my face. Eeeuw. I don’t know where your hands have been. Ha ha ha. I’m gonna stop.
This is my Friday JAM!! I love Will Young and there is something very George Michael about this song. I love it! I even like the music video. I’m always happy when people aren’t following the ‘formula’.
You KNOW I’m gonna try this with a trolley/shopping cart right? Ha ha ha. I am a FOOL.
I’m LOVE Aerosmith. I jokingly call Steve Tyler ‘my husband’. My friends think I’m crazy (excuse the pun). I blast this song loud in my car when I need a ‘lift’.
The video is fine, if you like that kind of thing. But the song… WINNER!!
If we must die, let it not be like hogs
Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot,
While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs,
Making their mock at our accursèd lot.
If we must die, O let us nobly die,
So that our precious blood may not be shed
In vain; then even the monsters we defy
Shall be constrained to honor us though dead!
O kinsmen! we must meet the common foe!
Though far outnumbered let us show us brave,
And for their thousand blows deal one death-blow!
What though before us lies the open grave?
Like men we’ll face the murderous, cowardly pack,
Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back!
I’m not a poetry person. I struggled with it at school. But the older I get, the more poetry I read. If We Must Die by Claude McKay gets me through rough days. God Bless Claude McKay.
I’m a runner. When a place or people get ‘toxic’, I run. Seemingly, I have been in the same place for a long time. It’s time to run. I am so unbelievably attracted to the Eiffel Tower. It is ridiculous.
I’ve been telling my friend @beanbagboy that he should move to New York. He’s wanted to live in New York for AGES. So, I’m gonna take my own advice.
I don’t think I’ll go live in Paris, but I will make it my yearly thing. 3/4 weeks a year should be enough to keep me going. I’m definitely putting my running shoes on. Its time to run away.
It was the late 90’s and Toni Braxton’s Secrets album was EVERYTHING!! My dad brought it home one day and I listened to it EVERY day for months. I loved her first album, so I had been looking forward to Secrets. It didn’t disappoint. Many of the songs on the album were written by Babyface. And I don’t need to tell you that the man is a songwriting GENIUS. If you don’t believe me go listen to Beyonce’s ‘Best Thing I Never Had’, he had something to do with it. Babyface is one of my favourite songwriters
There was a song on the album that was written and produced by R.Kelly; I Don’t Want To. I was singing this song in the car yesterday with the Manager Lady. That made me want to post in on here. Man…
Tell me that song didn’t touch you in a tender place? Ha ha ha ha ha. It touched me. It really did.
