The week in pics

I’m gonna try this out. If it doesn’t work then we’re just gonna act like it was a once off kinda-thing. Okay? Good. I won’t do this every week because… D.I.Y life.

Monday

wk1 Monday
After a super long Monday I had coffee at Vida. All I was thinking about was how much water I still had to drink. I’m trying to drink more water. It’s getting easier.

Tuesday

Went to dinner and a movie. No I didn't go see Khumba. It was Thor and OMG I LOVED it. Took a pic of the box because I thought it was cute.

Went for burgers (and cheese fries) at Clarke’s. Lovely place :) Manager lady took me there to celebrate my first magazine shoot and super awesome 2014 things.

Thursday

Thursday was another super long day. Missed a deadline (writing things). So I decided a pre-bedtime selfie would be a good way to cheer myself up.

Friday

Work function. I didn't feel like talking to anybody because I am only at the 'office' for 3.5hrs a day. They don't know me and I didn't feel like making 'fake office party conversation'.

Sunday

It stopped raining and I took a walk around the hood. Also I had a million DVDs to drop off. Let us never talk about my 'late fines'.

Markets, Juice & Laughter

Markets, Juice & Laughter

This weekend was perfect! Woke up after 10. Went to Old Biscuit Mill to eat food, admire bearded boys, talk to friends, buy kale (stop rolling your eyes), drink wine and act like the weather was not semi-gloomy.

After Biscuit Mill Marcee forced me to drive to Shelley’s (on Kloof) because she HAD to have juice. Not just plain old Carrot Apple & Ginger like me. She had to have Apple, Pear & Mint juice. Something about the colours behind her and the way she was smiling… It felt beautiful. I had to take a picture of her. We also laughed a lot. Till my tummy hurt.

Sunday was pretty much yummy food and watching Dr Who. I couldn’t ask for a better winter weekend.

3 more sleeps

3 more sleeps till my little bro is in Cape Town. 3 more sleeps! I can’t wait to see him. He’s here for the Jazz Festival but I convinced him to stay longer. Yay!!!!!!

I cannot wait to misbehave in Cape Town. He always brings out the ‘best’ in me. He he he he. This pic was taken while I was at home. We had gone to dinner with the parents & took this in the car. I don’t know why my mouth is open. I wasn’t even talking. SMH

Valentines Day or something like that…

I have never celebrated Valentines Day. Not even when I was younger. It was interesting to watch other people get caught up in the spirit of love or whatevs. I once received flowers and a teddy bear when I was at university, but that is another story for another day.

As you know I’ve been tweeting over at CurateZAR‘s account this week. Every week a different South African tweets from that account and shares some of their experiences. It is a lovely way to see how different & similar some of our experiences are. I’ve even followed some other Rotation Curation accounts. I feel like my whole world just got bigger. One of the people following @CurateZAR is Sonia Cabano and she told me about a kitchen party she was hosting on Valentines Day at the V&A Waterfront Food Market. Food is my first love, so I took my beloved Marcee with me and we went to go and celebrate our love for food :)

The party was upstairs and I had to drag myself away from all the other food places. I need to go back to the market soon.

We received a complimentary mojito to get things started. Mine was a little too sweet.

Hope you had a great valentines day. Food & I really enjoyed our day together ;)

Give me popcorn everyday

Give me popcorn everyday

I keep telling you that Nancy and I are twin souls. I love popcorn so much. This is probably what addiction feels like. I try to eat popcorn every single day. The only reason I don’t is because Marcee side eyes me and complains that I need to eat ‘healthy’ food. Aren’t ‘seeds’ good for you? Ha ha ha ha.

July Book 2 (our Lady of Benoni)

posted in: Book Worm | 0

While moving from my old spot to here, I forgot to do a post on July Book 2. In June I got the opportunity to meet one of my favourite authors (Zakes Mda). He was receiving an honourary doctorate from UCT and invited Marcee and I as his guests. This was definitely one of the highlights of my year. Less than a month later, he was back in the country and invited me to the launch of his new play Our Lady of Benoni.

After all the launch excitement I sat Marcee down and read the play to her. A few days later I sat down and read by myself. Our Lady of Benoni is set in a public park in Johannesburg. The 5 characters deal with issues of patriarchy, virginity testing and faith in South Africa. The title of the book is inspired by the (true) story of Francesca Zacke; a 17yr old girl from Benoni who (in 200&) claimed to see visions of the virgin Mary.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy reading the play, but I did. Rumour has it that it might be staged at the Baxter this year. If that’s true, I will definitely be there.

So Close!!!!!

Was doing some work this morning & decided to look at the album sleeve. Wanted to share some of my excitement with you. In a few days I will be sending out pre-ordered copies AND announcing the winner of the performance. Yaaaaaaaay!!! He he he my desktop is often a mess (don’t judge)

Get The Album (Invincible Summer)

posted in: The Journey, The Music | 0

So… Pre-orders close on the 31st of December. Have you pre-ordered your copy? It comes with a free (limited edition) t-shirt and the price includes shipping. AND you could win a private performance by me and my band (if you’re in South Africa).

invincible pre-order

This past week I was in studio taking care of those things that caused the album delay. It was so lovely to hear all the songs. Sometimes when I create, I forget to step back and actually enjoy what I’ve done. This album has almost been 3 years in the making. We took a lot of breaks in between (mainly because the project is self financed). There were times when I was certain that we would never complete the album.

We spent many late hours in the studio this week. On Thursday I wore my sexy ‘blue’ shoes. They were disrespecting my feet in a major way, by the end of the night. I had been wearing them ALL day. No matter. They are still pretty. I just won’t wear them from 8am to midnight next time.

They are Errol Arendz. Saw them in a magazine and stalked them for 2 months :)

Thank you to all the people who have pre-ordered the album so far. If you haven’t yet…. Watchu waiting for? ;)

Enjoy the holidays and tell someone you love how you feel. I have already. Not with my family this Christmas (because of album stuff). But I am going to Christmas lunch with a close friend and her family. There is love everywhere.

Black Porcelain. Out!
