My New Music Video (Hot Pink)

posted in: The Journey, The Music | 0

Late last year I started releasing my new single (Hot Pink). Instead of sending it to radio and being annoyed by responses like “we’re not quite sure what format it is” or whatevs… I decided to release it ‘face to face’. So I went around Cape Town and introsuced myself to people (mainly at offices) and played them my new song.

We had so much fun doing this. My friend (Linda) was at some of these ‘Hot Pink Serenades’ and he put together this music video. I was not joking when I said I am a D.I.Y artist :)

Help me choose!!

By now you know that my self financed album (Invincible Summer) is now out and also available on iTunes… Now it’s time for us to choose which single we send out to radio and shoot a new music video for. I’m having a hard time deciding. I need your help. Which song should be the ‘next single’? Aching Head or Hot Pink. Have a listen below and then let me know.

*This is my 100th post. Look how far we’ve come. Soon I will be giving this baby a facelift :)

Serenades 3 (and some radio)

This week was lots of fun, I was interviewed on 2OVfm and I serenaded the One Small Seed and Entertainment Africa teams.

Hanging out with Kamini at 2OVfm
I don’t know how to be normal
They have a podium and a ‘fake’ dog. Why wouldn’t I do this?
Singing for folks at One Small Seed :)

Launching a new single is much more fun this way. I can actually see how people react to the song. Instead of just sending it off to radio and then being sent on a wild goose chase. Woza Album!!

Manager Lady tells me we have a few more exciting serenades and radio interviews lined up.

Have you pre-ordered the album yet?

Serenade 2

This week we hosted another one of the Serenades. It was at Seventeen (SA) and it was also their 6th birthday. I added ‘Happy Birthday’ to the set list ;)

I don;t need to tell you how happy performing makes me. This week has left me feeling grateful and excited about the album launch. Its been almost 2 and a half years (on and off) and now I am doing all the things that we (Marcee and I) have been planning for months.

The response to the new single (Hot Pink) has been so overwhelming. I wrote that song when I was feeling low and I thought people might not get where I was coming from. When I sing it and I see that people can relate, I feel not-so-alone.

Janine wanted to take a pic of the shoes I had on. That has NEVER happened to me before :)
I’ve always had fantasies about working for a magazine. I had to look around. They have such a great working space.
I think I was singing… Or talking… Or both!
The audience :)
With the fabulous editor of Seventeen (Janine)

Every time I do one of these serenades, I thank the people who allow me and my team into their working space. They honestly don’t know what to expect and they are always so awesome. Thank you Team Seventeen!

Serenades 1

Although my music is on the playlist of countries in 36 countries… I’m still finding it hard to get radio here in South Africa to play my music. This isn’t one of those ‘woe is me’ type posts. I am the queen of D.I.Y when it comes to my music.

Manager Lady and I decided to go straight to the people with the release of my new single ‘Hot Pink’. So we started ‘serenading’ people at their offices. It is A LOT of fun to rock up at people’s offices and have fun with music. This week we did 4 of those Porcelain Serenades. When we arrive at the offices everyone is a little reserved because this is not something that happens all the time. But I have them singing along in no time ;)

Thanks to the awesome people at Cape Town Magazine, Rolling Stone, Have You Heard and Liquorice.

At Cape Town Magazine offices
They were an awesome bunch to start the serenades with

At Rolling Stone, that’s the editor (Miles) in the corner of the pic

Got Pink cupcakes for the masses. The song I’m launching is called Hot Pink :)
At Liquorice. I was expecting just a few people and it turned out to be more than 20 of them he he he.

I can’t wait to do this again next week. I told you its been awesome week.

I Need Music Therapy

I’ve been performing since I was a kid. I never really had a fear of public speaking, singing, acting or any of that stuff. I always felt at home on the stage. I stopped performing when I left high school and never really did anything (musically) when I was at university. I wrote (secretly), but I never did any performing.

When I moved to Cape Town I started working at night as a singing waitress. I was a HORRIBLE waitress, I’m being honest here. I think the only reason I didn’t get fired was because of my singing ability and my love of performing. I was hardly getting any sleep, but singing kept me happy. It was then when I realised that writing songs and performing them is my therapy. It keeps me sane.

Last week I performed Hot Pink and 2 other songs at Boom fm. Now I’ve been itching to perform again. Law’ ha’ mercy! I need some therapy :)

The folks at Boom fm sent me the video of me performing Today is the day. Have a look:

That jacket is becoming one of my favourites :)

Hot Pink at Boom fm

Yesterday I debuted my new single (Hot Pink) at Boom fm HQ. It was part of their ‘On the deck’ series. We started off with an interview; we discussed why I chose to go the D.I.Y way and what some of the pros and cons are. I also performed acoustic version of Butterflies and Today is the Day.

I LOVE performing and what made this performance so awesome is that it was on the roof top/deck thing (yes, I’m very bright). With the backdrop of table mountain and red wine (thanks Ruth) I was in heaven. It was so awesome to hang out with the Boom fm crew :)

mic check 1… 2… Is this thing on?

Posed in front of the poster to prove that I was actually there :)

Good times :)
